About the Artist

The start and story

Sébastien de Carbonnel is a French-American songwriter, singer, and author from Boston, Massachusetts. Taking inspiration from the lyricism and arrangements of Ben Folds, Charlie Burg, and Hozier, he blends storytelling and technical perspectives to help encourage audiences to engage with aspects of their own inner lives, and the lives of those around them.

He started out participating in theater, instrumental, and choral ensembles since middle school. He performed with his high school choir group as part of a televised Broadway in Boston number, and was cast in a handful of local productions, including as Aladdin in a local theater revue,  and Robbie at a Mockingbird studio production of The Wedding Singer. As a music director he helped lead Rochester Institute of Technology’s Surround Sound group through performances in upstate New York before moving to teach vocal groups at Mockingbird studios in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

From there he attended Berklee College of Music to pursue vocal performance and contemporary writing. As an author he has published short fiction in the art magazine Flynch, and continues to pursue other avenues to put additional stories and poetry into the world.

This comes alongside an upcoming EP titled Sweetheart Snapshots and more originals on the way. Taking inspiration from the lyricism and arrangements of Ben Folds, Anaïs Mitchell, and Hozier, he blends storytelling and technical perspectives to help encourage audiences to engage with aspects of their own inner lives, and the lives of those around them.
